French Augis Love Token Necklace | 18k Gold | Circa 1920
This 18k gold medal carries one of the most romantic phrases in French poetry: "+ qu'hier – que demain" (More than yesterday, less than tomorrow). It's a line from Rosemonde Gérard's love poem to her husband, a promise that love grows deeper with each passing day.
The phrase is engraved across the face of the medal, with a tiny diamond set at the plus and baguette-cut rubies accenting the minus. A delicate laurel wreath frames the entire piece, hand-engraved with the kind of detail you only find in early 20th-century French work.
It was made by Augis, a storied French jewelry house known for creating love tokens, medals, and keepsakes that were given to mark engagements, anniversaries, and quiet declarations of devotion. This particular model is extremely rare in this size, just over an inch tall and beautifully weighted at 6.75 grams.
The hand-engraved script lettering places this piece in the earliest period of Augis love token production, before the house transitioned to block lettering in the late 1920s. Script versions from this era are highly sought after by collectors.
The medal is finished with a modern 18" paperclip chain in 14k gold, so it feels wearable and current while the pendant itself remains a piece of history.
We love this piece on its own or layered in with your favorite stack.
